The Legendary Peter Luger Steak House was established in 1887, 134 years ago, surviving the 1819 and 2020 pandemic and yet, still standing. The above photo is the famous chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil that accompanied your mouth-watering check.
On October 29, 2019, The New York Times wrote an article “Peter Luger Used to Sizzle. Now It Sputters.” The House that Porterhouse built. The writer bashed Peter Luger for everything from the reception, fries, medium porterhouse burger, the size of check, no credit card policy and everything in between.
There are two locations of Peter Luger Steak House, one in Brooklyn New York City, and another one in Great Neck Long Island, NY. I wanted to have a proper dinner and decided to make a reservation at Peter Luger Brooklyn for a party of four.
Porterhouse steak, the main attraction of Peter Luger is a cut below the backbone that is the most tender part. This porterhouse meat is dry-aged in house for 28 to 45 days.
As we were too full with the steak, german fried potatoes, and creamed spinach, we ordered one serving of Pecan Pie with plenty of homemade schlag to share.
